Prine, Schlesinger Die From COVID-19 Complications

As the coronavirus continues to blanket the globe, the music world has suffered our fair share of losses.

John Prine, the 2-time Grammy winner and member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, passed away due to COVID-19 complications on April 7th. In the industry, John carries the same reputation as Bob Dylan as a pioneer of capturing the human experience through song.

Adam Schlesinger may not have John’s 5-decade career, but the Fountains of Wayne co-founder was way more than just the Stacy’s Mom guy (though Stacy’s Mom was nominated for a Grammy, so what do I know?)

In fact, Adam has wracked up nominations in almost every category:

  • Oscar nom for writing That Thing You Do!o
  • Emmy win for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
  • Tony noms for work on Cry-Baby

Prior to his death, he was working on a new theater production with Sarah Silverman. Here’s hoping Sarah can use the material and still produce something that captures their vision.
