The Chainsmokers Memories 2017 Tour Documentary
There may be no more polarizing group in dance music than The Chainsmokers. By all outward appearances these guys are on top of the world, playing sold out arenas from LA to Tokyo and putting on one of the most elaborate live shows you’ll see from an electronic group. But as much as they are loved they seem to be equally hated by critics whose favorite line is “lower common denominator.”
Earlier this year they finally released their documentary shot during their 2017 Memories tour, which they sat on for so long over fear of how it would be received.
Here are some of my favorite fun facts:
- They’ve always hated #SELFIE, ironically their first original track to go platinum.
- Memories tour was concurrent w/ their Vegas residency…which meant they would get off stage at 10pm, 3 hrs later they’re in the booth in Vegas, 2hrs after that back on flight to wherever tour was. They thought they were going to lose money on the tour so they couldn’t give up the residency.
- After a whiskey-fueled fight club to “celebrate” his birthday (boys are dumb), Alex broke his rib and had to play the last 17 stops in agonizing pain.
- They crashed a prom.
- They found both their drummer and keyboard player on YouTube. Tony Ann (keyboards) was 2 semesters from graduating from Berklee when he stepped away to join the tour.
- Sick Boy is all about the depression in us all, how we’re affected by what people say about us, etc. Drew wrote this song after getting off tour to process his own battle with depression. How many likes is my life worth?
