GRiZ @ Anthem (2019)

I’ve seen a lot of live music in my day and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something quite like what GRiZ brought to the Anthem on Friday night. It was bananas.

Touring on his latest Ride Waves album and Bangers[3].Zip EP, he brought along ProbCause and Chrishira Perrier as live vocals which was a gamechanger. I’ve seen producers bring out guest singers for select tracks but there wasn’t a single pre-recorded vocal in this whole set.

Supporting brass section (trumpet + trombone) was a no-brainer to go along with his sax and the light rig was straight up bonkers.

Coolest part was when he brought out the local drumline from George Mason University. You could tell right away they weren’t pros, their excitement at being on stage was too genuine; this was a once in a lifetime performance for most of these musicians.
