Jay-Z is a Billionaire
So Jay-Z is a billionaire. I guess if you grew up with holes in your zapatos, you’d celebrate the minute you was having dough too.
How do you become a billionaire? Well, you own a lot of stuff:
- Music Catalog – Surprisingly not that high, doesn’t even come close to the $100M stake in Tidal (which he bought for $60M in 2015).
- Uber – What if you could go back and buy $2M in Uber stock in 2013? Well, you’d have $70M.
- Liquor – First billionaire rapper has racked up $410M in net worth from popping bottles. His champagne company is worth $310M and his cognac company “moves almost 200,000 cases and grown nearly 80% annually.”
- Art – “I’m riding dirty, tryna get filthy/Pablo Picasso, Rothkos, Rilkes/Graduated to the MoMA/And I did all of this without a diploma.” For a cool $70M.

In case anyone thought I forgot about Dre…
“Back in 2014, music mogul Dr. Dre claimed he was hip-hop’s first billionaire after he sold Beats Music, the high-end headphones and streaming music service, to Apple. But it’s estimated that while that blockbuster deal pushed Dre’s net worth to about $1.1 billion, state and local taxes ultimately nudged it to just below the $1 billion-dollar mark.”
