Big & Rich Horse Of A Different Color Album Spotlight

In the spirit of an eclectic week here at Better Spins, I’m gonna go deep into the archives this morning and pull out an album that I would literally listen to every Saturday in high school.

Why, you ask? Because it’s 55min runtime was exactly how long it took to mow my lawn.

I was first introduced to Big & Rich (and all country music, frankly) through my buddy Curtis who I ran cross country with. He hooked me with the promise that they were more southern rock than country and you won’t have to endure any twangalang nonsense. He also promised a proper album, one that builds an emotional connection from one song to the next and conveys a complete experience.

Of course, you gotta have Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) to put you on the map and keep you relevant at bars, parties, and weddings (weird sentiment but ok).

Throw a little swagger on Big Time and yearn for bigger things on Six Foot Town.

Slow it down and lean on gospel themes with Holy Water and Saved. Let Big Kenny loose on the bridge of Deadwood Mountain to show southern roots run deep.

And no country album is complete without a stereotypical song ’bout Drinking ‘Bout You.
