Dear Winter, I Hope You Like Your Name
Big week, 21 new tracks on the Better Spins playlist this week. Some highlights:
- Scott Nice, The Polish Ambassador – Mother Ship Trip. Sitting alone in my office, I may or may not have busted out a 90 second freestyle on top of this beat. Maybe I’ll lay it down and drop a DJ BSlice track in next weeks playlist…
- Lionel Richie – You Are. As salty as I was when Best Buy refused to take back my headphones outside the return period, everything got a little brighter when this track rolled over the washing machines.
- Tame Impala – Borderline. You don’t headline Coachella without an ace up your sleeve. My favorite superfan (who stayed up until 3:30am EST for the Livestream) definitely stoked my FOMO:
- Carter Reeves – Alone Time. Outside the Seven Kingdoms, Winter is gone and Spring is here. Carter Reeves is getting you ready for that warm weather with this track pulled off Playground Radio.
- BTS – Boy With Luv (ft. Halsey). This beat has all the trappings of a feel good pop song until Halsey lays on her vocals to give it her trademark emotional depth.
- Calvin Harris, CamelPhat – I’m Not Alone (CamelPhat Remix). Strong deadmau5 vibe. Would never in a million years have pegged this as a Calvin Harris remix.
- William Basinski – 4(E+D)4(ER=EPR). If you asked me to explain what falling asleep sounds like, I would play you this track. Fun fact: ER=EPR refers to unifying general relativity and quantum mechanics into a theory of everything.
- Mat Zo – Deep Inside. I still can’t believe he’s not playing Second Sky 🙁
Honorable Mentions
- NGHTMRE, A$AP Ferg – REDLIGHT. Fresh off the heels of a killer Ultra set alongside Big Gigantic, NGHTMRE is doing big things in our world right now.
- Sumthin Sumthin – Gryme. When Louis the Child gives you a “song we think you should be bumpin’ all weekend long,” you pay attention.
- Emeralds – Everything is Inverted. More glitchy ambient from @theaaronlevy.
