AJR’s Dear Winter Hits All The Feels

AJR dropped new music last week and holy fuck if Dear Winter didn’t smash me right in the feels. In classic AJR fashion, they deliver deep, meaningful lyrics on top of innovative instrument distortion in a way that is unrivaled in music today.

The track is written from the perspective of a father to his yet-unborn child. In fact, he’s still looking for the right woman to start a family together:

Dear Winter, I hope you like your name
I’m hoping that someday, I can meet you on this Earth
But shit, I gotta meet your mom first.

As a father myself, the inevitability of conflict with someone I love more than life itself is something I don’t think I’ll ever truly be ready for:

Dear Winter, I hope you like this song
And even when you’re thirteen
And you scream at me for parenting you wrong
I hope it’s still a badass song.

If Gen Xers have Cat’s in the Cradle, us millennials have our own tearjerkers to deal with:

Dear Winter, don’t move too far away
And please don’t say I’m hovering
When I text you to ask about your day
I wanna hear about your day.

If you haven’t heard of the Met brothers, it’s high time you work them into your rotation…these guys are going places!
